Short Synopsis
A Spiritual story of Ibitayo, a beautiful, fair-skinned career woman whose life appears put together on the surface but is unraveling beneath.
Long Synopsis
ADAGI follows Ibitayo, a beautiful, fair-skinned career woman whose life appears put together on the surface but is unraveling beneath. The story opens in her bedroom, where she awakens from an intense, sensual dream involving a man she calls Adagi—a term that signifies a deep romantic partner or soulmate. In the dream, she passionately ends their relationship, expressing how it has become emotionally and spiritually draining, while he reacts with anguish, reminding her of their promises, their bond, and even their children.
When Ibitayo jolts awake, she discovers the dream was not entirely a fantasy—her hand is covered in cum, suggesting a supernatural or spiritual encounter. Reality crashes in as she checks her phone and receives three devastating messages: she has been fired from her job, her visa application has been denied, and worst of all, her real-life partner has broken up with her via a scathing text, accusing her of selfishness, unavailability, and being unfit for marriage.
Overwhelmed by the simultaneous collapse of her career, her dreams of travel, and her relationship, Ibitayo is left in tears. The story closes with a reflective voice-over in Yoruba, commenting on the emotional and spiritual consequences of broken relationships—especially those involving spiritual spouses (oko orun or aya orun)—and suggesting that such individuals need deep prayer to break free from unseen bonds.
