Sprints Gboko is a filmmaker, singer, and lecturer at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) in Benin. Born on January 1, 1993, in Bohicon, he is recognized as one of the pioneers of action and special effects cinema in Benin.

He leads the cultural association Projet AWA Cinéma and is the founder of the production and distribution company Sprints Gboko. Actively involved in raising awareness about sickle cell disease, he combines art and social impact in his works.

Biography

Born into a family passionate about photography in Athiémé, Sprints Gboko discovered the world of images and cameras at an early age. As early as 2006, he began creating his first theatrical pieces and artistic projects alongside his father. At 16, he earned his baccalaureate in Science (series D) from the “La Symbiose” College in Bohicon, before pursuing studies in Chemistry, Biology, and Geology (CBG) at UAC. However, his passion for cinema led him to fully dedicate himself to his artistic career.

In 2014, he founded Projet AWA Cinéma, officially recognized in 2016. From the beginning, he has established himself as a versatile creator, capable of taking on the roles of director, producer, distributor, cinematographer, and editor.


Career 

Since the beginning of his career, Sprints Gboko has established himself as a leading figure in Beninese cinema, pushing the boundaries of action filmmaking and special effects. In 2015, he directed his first short film, Le Portail de la Célébrité, paying tribute to Djimon Hounsou. Building on this initial experience, he launched the series Kondo, notre super héros in 2017, followed by the feature adaptation Kondo – Le Film, which achieved immediate success and helped redefine local cinema standards.

The year 2018 marked a turning point with the release of his short film Gayman, praised for its boldness and technical mastery, followed by the feature Avitikpamba 1, which attracted national and international attention. The success of this film paved the way for Avitikpamba 2 in 2019, a project that included an exceptional collaboration with Canadian comedian Bruno Blanchet, further cementing his reputation as an innovative and ambitious director.

Between 2020 and 2023, Sprints Gboko continued to deliver projects and successes, including CoronavirusAvitikpamba 3 & 4, and Le Retour de Tassi. His films have been widely broadcast on ORTB as well as mobile platforms, captivating audiences with their unique blend of action, special effects, and compelling storytelling.

At the same time, he has developed his teaching practice by instructing video editing and special effects at the University of Abomey-Calavi, sharing his expertise and training the next generation of Beninese filmmakers.

Throughout his career, Sprints Gboko has consistently demonstrated a commitment to pushing artistic boundaries while using cinema as a tool for social awareness, notably in raising awareness about sickle cell disease. This makes him a versatile and engaged creator, respected by both audiences and industry professionals alike.
